Angel Reese’s first year in the league – and her pursuit of Rookie of the Year – has come to an end. The Chicago Sky rookie revealed on Saturday night that she will be sidelined for the rest of the season due to a wrist injury sustained in a victory over the Sparks on Friday.
“I never would have thought that my last basket of my rookie season would be a 3-pointer, but maybe it’s a sign from God that there’s more to come in Year 2,” Reese shared in a tweet.
What a year. I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2 lol🥲Through it all, I have showed that I belong in this league even when no one else believed.… pic.twitter.com/re1X85mWR2

Despite the setback, the 22-year-old remains positive, stating that she has proven she belongs in the league even when others doubted her.
Reese finished the season with averages of 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds in 34 games, breaking a WNBA record with 15 consecutive games of double-doubles. While the injury solidifies Caitlin Clark’s path to the WNBA Rookie of the Year title, Reese’s emergence is a significant reason for the Sky to feel optimistic about their future.
