WNBA rookies Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark appear to be in a tight race for Rookie of the Year this season, but Chicago Sky forward isn’t concerned about the outcome.
Reese is more interested in focusing on the Sky’s chances in the postseason and their overall success rather than worrying about winning Rookie of the Year.
“I’m not focused on my individual accolades,” Reese told Complex’s Eddie Gonzalez. “I’m focused on our team and what we need to do collectively to win.”
Clark and Reese have been rivals since their college days at Iowa and LSU, respectively, but their popularity has significantly boosted the WNBA this season. Notably, the league’s merchandise sales have increased by 500% due to Clark and Reese’s jersey sales leading the WNBA.
This season, Indiana Fever vs. Sky games have set record viewership numbers, with their latest matchup reaching 2.302 viewers on ESPN, the highest in the past 23 years.
Reese is leveraging her popularity by launching a new podcast titled Unapologetically Angel, premiering on Thursday, Sept. 5. She also recently secured a sponsorship deal with Reese’s Pieces to honor her fan base.
The Sky currently hold the eighth seed in the WNBA playoff picture with an 11–18 record. The WNBA playoffs kick off on Sunday, Sept. 22.
