It came down to the wire, but the streak lives on.
With just 6.4 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Angel Reese was fouled and subsequently awarded a pair of free throws that not only sealed the Chicago Sky’s 78-69 win over the visiting Atlanta Dream Wednesday, but also extended her WNBA record-breaking double-double streak to 14.
“DUBBBBB (ima stop stressing yall out),” the rookie forward, who finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds, wrote on X after the game.
Chicago led by seven points before Reese called for the ball and was knocked to the ground by Atlanta center Tina Charles, resulting in two free throws with less than seven seconds remaining.
The former LSU standout, who needed just one point to keep the record going, sank both freebies, helping Chicago (9-12) win for the third time in four games.
Reese, who was named WNBA Rookie of the Month for June, entered Wednesday’s game averaging 14.1 points and 11.9 rebounds across 20 games.
Despite Chicago’s loss to the Seattle Storm on Sunday, the 22-year-old recorded 17 points and 14 rebounds.
On July 2, Reese was named to the 12-player 2024 WNBA All-Star team along with her rival and fellow rookie Caitlin Clark, who made WNBA history on Wednesday as the first-ever player to record over 25 points, 10 assists, five rebounds, five steals and five 3-pointers in a game, per WNBA.com.
Despite the Indiana Fever’s loss to the Mystics on Wednesday, Clark recorded 29 points, five rebounds and 13 assists.
