After turning heads with a unique outfit for the Met Gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, WNBA star Angel Reese was featured on a clip posted on social media by Megan Thee Stallion

WNBA superstar Angel Reese left the Met Gala 2025 early alongside Megan Thee Stallion – after the rapper appeared to break strict rules at the event as she took out her phone.

The Chicago Sky power forward served as a member of the host committee for this year’s spectacle alongside such names as Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson, Sha’Carri Richardson and Flau’jae Johnson. The 23-year-old, nicknamed the “Bayou Barbie” by fans, joined household names from the world of sport including Lewis Hamilton who invited eight women who inspire him, and Simone Biles, who gave an insight into her relationship with Jonathan Owens, on the red carpet in New York.

The former LSU college basketball sensation arrived at the event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in an outfit befitting of the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” dress code. Clad in a black-and-white dress, with her hair slicked back, her appearance proved a hit with fans – with Jalen Hurts, Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu and the Williams sisters also turning heads with their respective looks.

However, the aforementioned Megan Thee Stallion did cause a stir online after taking out her mobile phone to record a video at the event – seemingly contravening Met Gala rules in the process. In the clip, the chart-topper appeared to be fully aware of the regulations, saying: “We’re not supposed to have our phones out.”

“Haha, not at all,” the actress Tracee Ellis Ross then remarked, before adding: “Put your phones away,” as the rapper then proceeded to continue filming, saying in another video with film star Cynthia Erivo: “But we’re doing it. Ooh, I snuck the phone inside. Cheese!”

In a subsequent video, the hip hop star Doechii is featured, alongside Reese, with the hitmaker having been filmed trying the food on offer at the event, saying: “We’re going to see what we’ve got,” to which the WNBA star replied: “The cornbread’s good,” before Megan Thee Stallion added: “She didn’t believe me.”

Before Reese left the event early, her decision to miss Sky team practice on Monday proved a divisive issue. However, Chicago head coach James Wade said of the player’s commitment: “She’s handled it great. She puts in a ton of work in the offseason and during the season.

“She communicated with her teammates that she’ll be there. We, as an organization, are in support of everyone on and off the court.”

However, one fan was not exactly impressed with her decision to attend the Met Gala, and said: “Still can’t make a layup or draw fans to her games. Pathetic,” as a second said: “Angel Reese needs to skip that event and work on her layups,” before a third then added: “Missing practice for a party?”

Meanwhile, LeBron James issued a message to fans as he confirmed he would not be in New York for the event. He said: “Unfortunately because of my knee injury I sustained at the end of the season I won’t be able to attend the Met Gala in NY tonight as so many people have been asking and congratulating me on!

“Hate to miss an historical event! My beautiful powerful Queen will be there holding the castle down as she always has done!”

Event co-chair Lewis Hamilton spoke of his pride at attending the New York spectacle, adding: “It’s hard to put into words what it means to co-chair this year’s Met.

“This year’s theme speaks to royalty, spirituality, and the sacred power of adornment. Materials like ivory and cowrie aren’t just beautiful—they carry ancestral memory. They are markers of identity, protection, and reverence.

“I’m deeply grateful to the Costume Institute at The Met, to Grace Wales Bonner, to the incredible co-chairs, and to everyone who continues to honor the legacy of the Black Dandy. We’ve always been here. We’ve always been fly. And now, we’re seen.”
