Angel Reese has broken a WNBA record, surpassing Candace Parker with an incredible accomplishment as reported by NBC Sports Chicago.
Chicago Sky’s rookie forward Angel Reese made history in the WNBA by setting a new record, surpassing a mark previously held by Chicago icon Candace Parker.
Reese, who was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, achieved her 13th consecutive double-double during the game against the Seattle Storm on Sunday, breaking the league’s record for the most consecutive 10-10 games.
While Reese had already set the record for the most double-doubles in a single season, her performance on Sunday secured her the league’s all-time record, with Parker previously holding the mark during parts of the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
The rookie standout entered Sunday’s game in outstanding form, leading the WNBA with an average of 11.7 rebounds per game this season. She also maintained averages of 13.9 points, 1.9 assists, and 1.4 steals, and was selected for the league’s All-Star Game roster.
She recently delivered two of her top career performances in the two games leading up to Sunday, posting a season-high 19 rebounds in an 85-77 victory over Atlanta on Tuesday. She followed this up with a season-high 27 points and 10 additional rebounds in another win against Seattle on Friday.
As they headed into Sunday’s action, the Sky had an 8-11 record and were positioned as the No. 7 seed in the WNBA playoff standings, with a 1.5-game lead over Atlanta for a playoff berth and 1.5 games behind Phoenix for sixth place.
