Chicago Sky star Angel Reese reflected on her second season in the WNBA, saying it “taught me so much.”
Reese added that “this is only the beginning” while sharing a brief highlight reel from 2025:
The 6’3″ forward was an All-Star for the second time and averaged 14.7 points and 12.6 rebounds this year. She may not look back on the season all that fondly, though.
The Sky, which harbored playoff hopes, tied for the league’s worst record (10-34), and their performance prompted some candid remarks from Reese.
“I’m not settling for the same s–t we did this year,” she told the Chicago Tribune’s Julia Poe. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me.
“I’m willing and wanting to play with the best. And however I can help to get the best here, that’s what I’m going to do this offseason. So it’s going to be very, very important this offseason to make sure we attract the best of the best because we can’t settle for what we have this year.”
In general, Sky fans have been expressing the same thoughts for a long time. Some thought Reese was a little too dismissive of her current teammates, though, with Poe saying “she believes there are only two guarantees on the 2026 Sky roster: herself and [center Kamilla] Cardoso.”
While Reese apologized to the team, the Sky still saw fit to suspend her for the first half of their 80-66 loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Sept. 7. She didn’t suit up for Chicago’s final two games, either, because of a lingering back injury.
Now, an organization that watched Sylvia Fowles, Elena Delle Donne and Kahleah Copper seek an exit is left to wonder whether the same thing will happen with another bright talent.
General manager Jeff Pagliocca downplayed the likelihood of a Reese trade in his exit interview with media members last week, but that will do little to quell the speculation this offseason.
