Angel Reese appeared to insinuate that she will not rush back from her nagging back injury after the Chicago Sky forward was sidelined for the last five games

Angel Reese provided a cryptic update on when she might return to the court as the Chicago Sky forward continues to remain sidelined with a back injury.

Due to the health setback, Reese has been forced to miss the last five games — four of which Chicago has lost. In her absence, the Sky boast a meagre 1-7 record this season and are on pace to finish with their lowest winning percentage (.147) since 2006.

Taking to social media, Reese appeared to insinuate that she won’t be rushing back unless she’s fully recovered. “In due time,” she wrote.

Droves of WNBA fans swiftly wished Reese a speedy recovery in the comments. “We need you back but please heal fully first,” one X user wrote, with another adding: “Miss you on the court. Sending healing energy to you.”

A third chimed in, “We miss you. Healing prayers for your mental and physical. Take your time and only come back when you are ready 5.”

Despite having not appeared in a game since July 29, Reese is still considered day-to-day according to Sky head coach Tyler Marsh.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, he revealed that the LSU product didn’t travel to Indiana for Chicago’s most recent game against the Fever in order to focus on her recovery.

“I think she’s progressing. She’s just, again, just stepping away to focus on that rehab,” Marsh said. “Again, as we get more information in terms of [a] concrete timeline, we’ll communicate that. But as of now, it will continue to be day-to-day.”

Several days prior, however, Marsh conceded that there is still not a “concrete timetable” for when Reese might return. “There isn’t a concrete timetable,” he said on August 5.

“As to the extent that I know. It’s the back injury, and she continues to be day-to-day… I think she’s progressing, but still kind of wait and see.”

Even with her prolonged absence, Reese still leads the WNBA in rebounds per game (12.6) while also boasting the most points (14.2) and assists (3.7) per game among Sky players who’ve played a minimum of 10 games this season.

Though Reese has suffered through an injury-riddled campaign in 2025, the 23-year-old asserted that she isn’t concerned about getting hurt while out on the court.

“When I am out there, I don’t think about an injury,” she explained after her most recent appearance against the Washington Mystics. “It can happen anyway, anytime. If I’m thinking about it too much, it’s gonna happen again.

“So, just trying to fight through contact as much as I can and do whatever I can for the team. I was ugly, ugly for me, but I tried to push through as much as I could for my teammates because I know they need me out there.”
