Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese’s impressive streak of recording a double-double in 15 straight WNBA games came to an end as she posted eight points and 16 rebounds in an 81-67 home loss to the New York Liberty on Saturday afternoon.
The Liberty made sure Reese fell just short of another double-double by defending her with four players in the final seconds.
Although Reese struggled with her shooting, making only 3-of-13 field goals, she dominated the boards. Fans praised her remarkable achievement despite the loss.
Throughout the streak, Reese averaged 14.8 points on 42.2 percent shooting, 13.2 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. Her highest scoring game was 27 points in an 88-84 road win against the Seattle Storm, and her highest rebounding game was 19 boards in an 85-77 road win against the Atlanta Dream.
Now that the streak has ended, the focus shifts to the Sky’s playoff aspirations. Currently sitting at 9-14, Chicago holds the eighth spot in the WNBA standings and the last playoff position.
With 17 regular-season games remaining for Chicago, their next game is against the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday. This marks the end of the unofficial first half of the season as the Olympic break is approaching.
