The rivalry between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark has been a prominent storyline for several seasons. However, a new player has entered the fray. While Clark and Reese have been competing against each other since their college basketball days, their rivalry truly intensified in the WNBA. As the Indiana Fever point guard made more enemies in the professional leagues, there is another player who stands out alongside Clark in terms of college statistics – and it’s not Reese.
Although their positions and playing styles differ significantly, both Clark and Reese excel on offense. Clark is known for her scoring prowess, while Reese shines in rebounds and assists. However, Chicago Sky player Chennedy Carter is the one who shares the spotlight with the Iowa sensation, according to a recent report.
In a post by I Talk Hoops, it was revealed that “Chennedy Carter and Caitlin Clark are the only two WCBB players in the past 15 seasons to average 30 points per game across multiple NCAA Tournament runs (minimum of 3 games played). ✨”

Carter, a former Texas A&M Aggies player, was four years ahead of the current WNBA Rookie of the Year. While Carter was beginning her college career, Clark was already making waves in the WNBA with the Atlanta Dream.

According to the official Texas A&M website, Carter averaged 31.0 points per game in her NCAA Tournament career with the Aggies and holds the record for four of the five 30+ point games in Texas A&M history. On the other hand, Caitlin Clark has scored 462 points in 16 career NCAA Tournament games, averaging 28.9 points per game. It’s evident that Clark is not far behind in terms of scoring prowess.
Meanwhile, Angel Reese, known for her scoring abilities as well, had different numbers. As per the official LSU Athletics website, she averaged 21.3 points and 15.2 rebounds during March Madness. When she faced Iowa in 2023, Reese recorded 15 points and 10 rebounds while playing for the Sky.
The on-court rivalry between Reese and Clark has been relatively friendly. However, Carter’s physical altercation with Clark in a Sky Fever game early in the season set a tense tone for the rest of the year. Carter’s aggressive behavior on the court has garnered attention and sparked speculation about her relationship with Clark.
Responding to the narrative that Clark has brought attention to the sport with minimal talent, Chennedy Carter seems to support this notion. Despite her impressive stats, some players in the league have expressed contrasting views. Following the flagrant foul incident, Carter declined to answer questions in the postgame press conference but later took to Instagram to express her sentiments.
Currently playing in China, Carter’s aggressive behavior continues to be observed. Despite being a frontrunner for the Most Improved Player award, there are indications that she still has room for growth in her game.
