WNBA star and Chicago Sky center Angel Reese didn’t mince any words when discussing the WNBA salary situation.

On Monday night, Reese’s Unrivaled team, The Rose Basketball Club, defeated the Vinyl 62-54. Each player on the winning team received a $50,000 bonus. Of course, Reese was excited to receive that bonus, but she also took a shot at the WNBA salary situation when expressing that excitement in a post on X.

“50K NEED DATTTTT,” Reese wrote on X while making a flurry of posts Monday night celebrating the championship win.

After an array of posts on X, Reese responded to a fan asking for money, telling a fan she needs more of it at this point in her career.

“I’m sorry to break it to you but i’m on a rookie contract & that 50k was a little more than half of my contract so I have to keep that to myself…. Sorry,” Reese posted. “Give me a few years and i gotchu. be well.”

hey sista. i’m doing well. just won 50k on a flight. I know you are VERY aware & i’m sorry to break it to you but i’m on a rookie contract & that 50k was a little more than half of my contract so I have to keep that to myself…. sorry 🙁 give me a few years and i gotchu. be… https://t.co/TgUbIgMBPy

Although Reese is only heading into her second year in the league, she has been vocal about these disparities.

The 22-year-old may have plenty of lucrative endorsement deals; however, her main source of income may not be sufficient enough. The average salary for WNBA players is around $150,000 per season, with some making as little as $56,000. As for NBA players, the average is around $10 million.

While the WNBA players feel like they deserve more and certainly do, their revenue is not the same as the NBA’s. The WNBA generates approximately $60 million in annual revenue, whereas the NBA’s annual revenues are $7.92 billion. This disparity allows the NBA to pay its players a significantly higher amount than the WNBA.

A few weeks ago, Reese and Dallas Wings guard DiJonai Carrington teased a potential WNBA lockout amid CBA negotiations.

“Yeah, the new CBA is coming up. I can’t wait,” Reese said. “We deserve more. Everybody.”

“But the women coming in, not this year but next year — because the ones coming in this year will still be on the rookie contract — the ones coming in the year after, they’re about to be making more than us,” Reese said. “… I got to get in the [CBA] meetings because I’m hearing, ‘If y’all don’t give us what we want, we sitting out.'”

“That’s a possibility, for real,” Carrington responded.

The CBA lasts through Oct. 31, 2025.
