Angel Reese has been receiving a lot of attention in her first season in the WNBA. However, she witnessed firsthand the impact a two-time champion and two-time MVP can have on the court during Tuesday’s game.
A’ja Wilson put on a stellar performance in the Las Vegas Aces’ 93-85 loss to the Chicago Sky, racking up 28 points, 14 rebounds, five blocks, and three steals. Wilson’s impressive stats were crucial for the Aces, who found themselves trailing by as many as 13 points in the second half before making a comeback.
Despite Angel Reese recording another double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists, the Sky, led by Chennedy Carter’s 34 points, managed to secure the win. Reese had a game-high plus-26 rating on the night.
Although the Sky emerged victorious, it was evident that Wilson, arguably the top player in the WNBA, outshined the promising rookie Reese:
Fans took to social media to show their support for Reese as well:
The victory pushed the Sky’s record to 10-14 for the season, while the two-time defending champions now stand at 16-8. Given these records and Las Vegas’ recent success, it was certainly a surprising upset.
The Sky show promise with their young core of Carter, Reese, and Kamilla Cardoso. Together, Reese and Cardoso grabbed 18 rebounds, aiding in Chicago’s control of the boards (35-26 advantage) and limiting Vegas’ second-chance opportunities.
As the 2024 WNBA season progresses, the Aces are likely to play a more significant role in the postseason story than the Sky, who are striving for a playoff spot. However, Chicago is on the rise, guided by its young talent.
