Chennedy Carter showcased her impressive two-way play on social media after leading her team, Wuhan Shengfan, to a big win against a divisional rival on Wednesday. The guard, who previously played alongside WNBA star Angel Reese and now plays in China during the offseason, highlighted the standout moment on her Instagram story.
In the post, Carter can be seen grabbing a loose ball, spinning around a defender, and racing down the court, finishing strong at the rim despite contact. Check out the Instagram story below:
The play was part of a 33-point performance from Carter, who helped Wuhan Shengfan to an 82-75 victory. In 21 games this season, Carter is averaging 31.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.9 steals.
Wuhan Shengfan currently lead Group B of the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association with a 22-4 record. Their latest win came against Hefei Cultural Tourism, a team they’ve defeated in back-to-back matchups as part of a nine-game win streak. Wuhan’s success this season is significant, as they have been near the bottom of the standings over the past several years.
Carter doesn’t post just her game highlights online but also glimpses of her experiences playing overseas. It’s common for WNBA players to spend their offseasons abroad, where they can earn additional income.
Chicago Sky part ways with Chennedy Carter
The Chicago Sky decided not to extend Chennedy Carter a qualifying offer after the deadline passed on Monday. Carter, who led the Sky in scoring last season with 17.5 points per game, is now an unrestricted free agent.
This decision marks a shift in direction for the Sky after they fired head coach Teresa Weatherspoon following a single season with the team. Chicago finished last season with a disappointing 13-27 record.
According to Annie Costabile, a reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times, multiple league sources have stated that “players were unhappy with the dynamic created in the locker room last year due to Carter’s behavior,” which supposedly went unchecked by Weatherspoon.
This apparent behavior raised concerns within the organization, with some fearing it could affect the Sky’s chances of securing free agents in the future.
These internal challenges, along with the reported culture that developed under Weatherspoon, contributed to both Carter and Weatherspoon parting ways with the Sky.
Chicago’s current head coach, Tyler Marsh, will now work to establish a new team culture for the upcoming season.
