Angel Reese’s impressive streak of double-doubles in the WNBA has come to an end in a disappointing manner.
The rookie from the Chicago Sky fell just two points short of achieving her 16th consecutive double-double, managing only eight points and 16 rebounds on 3-for-13 shooting in a 81-67 home loss to the Liberty on Saturday.
Despite many opportunities to continue her streak, Reese struggled to score, missing even an open layup in the fourth quarter.
The Liberty, who had witnessed Reese’s 15th double-double against them just two days prior, made sure to limit her performance this time around.
In a final possession play, the team resorted to surrounding Reese near the left block with four defenders to prevent her from achieving her milestone.
With 2 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Reese attempted a shot under the basket, but no foul was called despite contact from the defenders.
A visibly frustrated Reese was also given a technical foul for disputing a foul call on a rebound with 7:07 remaining in the game.
Last Sunday, the former LSU standout surpassed Candice Parker’s record of 12 consecutive double-doubles.
