A former Dodgers prospect is making his way back to Southern California.
The Angels have acquired right-handed reliever Nick Robertson, who recently debuted in L.A., on a waiver claim from the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.
Robertson was initially drafted by the Dodgers as the 221st overall pick in the seventh round of the 2019 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut with the Dodgers on June 7, 2023, impressively throwing three strikeouts across two hitless innings.
However, Robertson’s performance with the Dodgers declined after his promising start. He struggled in subsequent outings, never pitching more than two innings at a time, and his ERA stayed above 6.00.
After making nine appearances with the Dodgers and being credited with one loss, Robertson was traded to the Boston Red Sox before being moved to the St. Louis Cardinals. His time in the majors was mostly spent on the injured list or in the minor leagues.
Robertson was recently designated for assignment by the Cardinals, leading the Angels to pick him up. With each new team, Robertson has shown improvement in his ERA, making the move to Anaheim potentially beneficial for his career.
The Angels had available spots on their roster, allowing them to add Robertson and left-handed reliever Brock Burke without making any additional changes.
