Atalanta have stated their position on Ederson’s future amidst Manchester United’s interest in the midfielder.
In November, The Peoples Person reported on Sky Sports Germany’s claim that Man United were eyeing a move for the Brazilian in the upcoming January transfer window.
Towards the end of last month, Fabrizio Romano confirmed United’s interest in Ederson, suggesting he would fit well into manager Ruben Amorim’s system.
However, news emerged that Manchester City also had their sights set on Ederson, complicating United’s pursuit of the midfielder.
Despite City’s involvement, it may not be wise for United to go all-in on signing Ederson, especially considering a recent update from Italy.
Today, TEAMtalk confirmed Atalanta’s position on Ederson’s possible transfer, according to their sources.
“Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their quest to acquire defensive midfielder Ederson, as Atalanta have firmly stated their refusal to sell him in the January transfer window amidst competing interest from Liverpool and Manchester City,” the report stated.
“TEAMtalk has learned that Man Utd have shown genuine interest in Ederson. Sources have also indicated Liverpool’s interest in the Brazilian star. While Arne Slot’s side is less actively pursuing him, they have sought updates on his availability.”
“Yet, like City and Liverpool, Man Utd face a challenging task in securing the 25-year-old. TEAMtalk has been informed that Atalanta has made it crystal clear that Ederson will not be leaving the club in January.”
“Sources have informed us that Ederson is eager to play in the Premier League, but Atalanta will only consider offers for him in the summer of 2025. The Serie A club has set a price range of €58-60 million,” concluded the report.
With this latest development, United’s chances of signing Ederson in the short term seem unlikely.
Nevertheless, it might be worthwhile for Amorim to focus on acquiring Ederson during the summer transfer window.
The Brazilian has established himself as a dominant presence in Atalanta’s midfield, boasting a pass accuracy of 87% and successful long balls rate of 63% per match. He has also excelled in winning ground duels (52%) and aerial challenges (65%) in Serie A. (Sofascore)
Given his attributes, skillset, age, and potential affordability, Ederson could offer a sustainable solution to United’s midfield concerns if Amorim decides to pursue him.
