ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The Atlanta Dream and the newly-signed Brittney Griner will host their first home game of the 2025 WNBA season on May 22 at State Farm Arena against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.
Clark has been a sensation since entering the WNBA last season. Her popularity has led teams including the Dream to move games against the Fever to larger arenas to accommodate interest.
Last year, the Dream set a team record for attendance when they played the Fever at State Farm Arena. A sellout crowd of more than 17,000 people turned out on June 21, 2024, to watch the Fever beat the Dream 91-79.

The Dream normally play at Gateway Center Arena in College Park. It holds 3,500 people for basketball games and is one of the smallest arenas in the WNBA.
Majority owner Larry Gottesdiener said the move to State Farm Arena is because of a scheduling conflict.
“We have invested significant resources and energy into making Gateway Center Arena the most unique home-court experience in the WNBA,” said Atlanta Dream Majority Owner, Larry Gottesdiener. “However, due to a scheduling conflict at Gateway, we saw an opportunity to bring this exciting early-season matchup to State Farm Arena, allowing even more fans to experience it. We appreciate the hospitality.”
The Dream are drumming up plenty of hype on their own. They made a huge splash in free agency, signing 10-time All-Star Griner to a one-year deal. The Dream also signed three-time All-Star Brionna Jones and guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough.
“The excitement around the Atlanta Dream has never been higher and we can’t wait to open this season in front of a packed house at State Farm Arena,” said Dream President and COO Morgan Shaw Parker. “There’s no doubt our home opener on May 22nd will be electric!”
The game against the Fever will also be the curtain drop on Karl Smesko’s tenure as Dream head coach. Smesko was hired this offseason from Florida Gulf Coast, where he had been one of the winningest coaches in Division I women’s basketball.
Fans can sign up for presale access at atlantadream.com to get first and early access to the home opener tickets before the general public. Single game tickets will go on sale for the home opener and all regular season home games on Friday, March 21. For more ticketing options, click here.
