August “Augie” Pabst Jr., a legend in American Sports Car Racing, passed away at the age of 90 on Wednesday, October 9th, 2024, surrounded by friends and family at his home. He is survived by his wife, Joan “Joanie”, four children, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Augie was well-known and admired for his success on and off the track.
Augie began his racing career in the SCCA in 1956 after founding Pabst Motors in Milwaukee. Throughout his career, he drove for renowned teams such as Meister Brauser, Shelby American, and NART-Ferrari, driving a variety of iconic cars and winning numerous races and championships.
After retiring from racing, Augie worked for Pabst Brewing Company and later took over Pabst Farms until his retirement in 2012. He remained connected to the racing world by serving on the board of directors at Road America and supporting his son’s racing team.
Outside of racing, Augie enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. He and Joanie also traveled the world participating in road rallies and cherished time with family in various locations.
Augie will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date, and donations in his honor can be made to the Pabst Mansion.
