While there’s no word on a follow up to 2023’s Dead Space relaunch, fans of the franchise might just want to make sure they have Battlefield 2042 installed next week as a new Dead Space collaboration drops.
News of the collaboration was officially announced on the evening of July 3, with the release date scheduled for Tuesday, July 9. It will run for just a week, so grab it while you can. EA’s futuristic shooter will crossover with its sci-fi survival horror classic bringing new skins and game modes to Battlefield’s existing Zombie Outbreak mode.
Releasing as part of Battlefield 2042’s Season 07 Turning Point, and subtitled Hold the Horde, the Dead Space collaboration will feature new enemies, cosmetics, and game modes based on the series. While additional info isn’t currently available, response to the announcement has been almost universally positive, with fans excited for the crossover.
This is also a great time to get into, or back into Battlefield 2042 if you’ve not already, as the game is currently on sale on Steam for just $5.99 (£4.99). The game has had a mixed response since its 2021 release, but has generally found a niche but dedicated audience of players in recent months.
This isn’t the first time Dead Space has found its way into Battlefield or other EA titles though. In Battlefield 3 you could find Issac Clarke’s helmet, and in Battlefield: Hardline, two characters are seen playing Dead Space at one point. Various easter eggs including Dead Space have appeared in Dragon Age, Saints Row, Mass Effect, Apex Legends, and even Fortnite.
Dead Space relaunched its franchise in 2023 with a critically acclaimed reboot of the same name. Despite teething problems during development and worries about the reboot, Dead Space (2023) has revitalized the series for many. This was contrasted by the highly anticipated Callisto Protocol, which initially seemed to be a spiritual successor to Dead Space, only to struggle on release.
