During a preseason game at Arrowhead Stadium, Chicago Bears cornerback Douglas Coleman III was injured while tackling the Chiefs’ Cornell Powell. Coleman was immobilized on a stretcher and taken away in an ambulance.
As Coleman made the tackle, his neck bent awkwardly and he went down. Trainers and doctors rushed onto the field to assess his condition. Bears coach Matt Eberflus mentioned that Coleman was moving his extremities and gave a thumbs-up, which was a positive sign.
After being strapped to a backboard, Coleman was taken off the field on a cart and transported to the hospital for further evaluation. The Bears ultimately won the game.
Coleman, who played college football at Texas Tech, went undrafted in 2020 but signed with the Broncos before joining the Ottawa Redblacks. He has experience playing safety and linebacker, and had a successful season last year with impressive stats.
