Belinda Bencic is making her return to tennis just half a year after giving birth to her first child. The 27-year-old Swiss player will be participating in the ITF W75 Hamburg tournament starting on October 28, marking her first appearance on the ITF World Tennis Tour in six years.
Bencic, a former world No. 4 and Olympic gold medalist, welcomed her daughter Bella in April and has been working diligently to get back into shape. She stated, “I’m not quite at my peak in terms of tennis and fitness, but I feel strong and prepared to compete,” after receiving a wildcard for the Hamburg event.
This tournament will serve as a stepping stone for her comeback to elite competition before she represents Switzerland in the Billie Jean King Cup match against Serbia in mid-November. Bencic highlighted the importance of challenging herself in a competitive atmosphere: “I want to push my limits in competition to identify areas we need to improve on in order to start the next season at my best. We also want to see how we can effectively handle daily routines at the tournament with Bella.”
The most recent event Bencic played in was the San Diego Open in September 2023. Over her career, she has achieved notable success, winning her last two titles in 2023 at the Abu Dhabi and Adelaide 2 tournaments, bringing her total number of career titles to eight. (photo: Jimmie48)
