Edgar Berlanga expressed his desire to pursue a career in acting and dreams of making it big in Hollywood after experiencing what it’s like to be in front of the cameras during his fight against the renowned Canelo Alvarez on Saturday.
The sudden spotlight on Berlanga, due to his involvement as a prop in Canelo’s fight, has inflated his ego, leading him to believe that this newfound attention will become a regular occurrence. However, this is unlikely to be the case.
These moments of fame belong to Berlanga, and if Canelo knocks him out, as many predict, he will quickly fade into obscurity.
Up until now, Berlanga’s fights have not garnered much fanfare, primarily due to the low-level opponents selected by his promoters. Finally, he is beginning to capture the attention of fans.
It is concerning how Top Rank and Matchroom Boxing have manufactured Berlanga’s career, never pitting him against formidable opponents to earn a title shot against Canelo. This strategy differs from other sports, where teams compete against top-tier opponents to reach the pinnacle of their sport. Berlanga took a different path.
“When you’re a superstar, you have to handle the pressure with ease. That’s what stars do,” remarked Edgar Berlanga in an interview with Fight Hub TV on YouTube, discussing his composure in facing the superstar Canelo Alvarez.
Berlanga is akin to Teofimo Lopez in the super middleweight division, exhibiting similar behaviors in interviews while lacking a complete understanding. Even a victory over the 34-year-old Canelo would not elevate him to superstar status.
To truly shine, a fighter must remain at the top without the protective shield of promoters and must face quality opponents. If Berlanga were to become a champion, he would likely falter in his first title defense unless matched against inferior opponents.
“I’ve been clamoring for this fight for a long time. Now that I finally have it, I can’t back down. He may have thought I would challenge him, as I saw a video of him tightening his fists,” Berlanga shared about his encounter with Canelo at the press conference.
Berlanga’s insistence on fighting Canelo for an extended period is evident. To earn this fight, he should have faced top contenders, garnering more support from fans in his quest for a world title.
Berlanga’s most recent opponents include:
– Padraig McCrory
– Jason Quigley
– Roamer Alexis Angulo
– Steve Rolls
– Marcelo Coceres
“He seemed apprehensive that I might confront him or provoke him. Perhaps he’s feeling nervous,” speculated Berlanga about Canelo’s demeanor.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the spotlight, Berlanga proclaimed, “I adore the lights and the cameras. I am a star. After this, I aim to venture into Hollywood. Following boxing, I aspire to become an actor. To excel as an actor, one must be accustomed to the limelight. I’ve grown accustomed to this my whole life. I am at ease and in my element,” said Berlanga.
