The Bills’ wide receiver group has come under scrutiny this offseason following the departure of Gabe Davis and Stefon Diggs. The passing game has struggled in the past two weeks against tougher competition despite some players stepping up.
Josh Allen struggled without his reliable target Khalil Shakir in Week 5, completing only 9 of 30 passes for 131 yards. The Bills might be facing a problem, but Shakir and second-round pick Keon Coleman have shown promise for the future.
Despite some concerns, head coach Sean McDermott expressed confidence in the group. The Bills have been linked to Davante Adams, but they find the Raiders’ asking price too high. Buffalo signed several free agents in the hopes of improving the group, but so far, the results have been mixed.
Curtis Samuel has been a disappointment so far, with only nine receptions for 48 yards in five games. Shakir and Coleman have been the most productive receivers in terms of yardage.
If Adams is not an option, the Bills have other potential targets like DeAndre Hopkins and Diontae Johnson. Johnson could provide a boost to the Bills’ passing attack and has been mentioned as a player to watch.
While Johnson’s skill set may overlap with Shakir’s, he brings more experience and could be a valuable addition to the team. Acquiring Johnson would improve the Bills’ receiving corps and potentially elevate their passing game.
