Manchester United received a significant boost in their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo as the Spanish club’s attempt to re-register him faced a setback.
United could potentially secure Olmo on a free transfer in just four days after a court denied Barcelona’s request to register the player under La Liga regulations due to their financial difficulties.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo [via The Daily Mail], “The Commercial Court 10 of Barcelona publicly announced their decision not to allow the Blaugrana to register the midfielder.”
“In response, Barcelona is expected to file a new lawsuit against La Liga in a final effort to make their summer signing available for the latter part of the season.”
“They are likely to argue that the registration rules are invalid because they are controlled by a body they deem incompetent.”
A recent report mentioned by The Peoples Person indicated that Olmo’s agent Andy Bara visited Manchester, fueling speculation that the player’s representatives are exploring alternatives.
Aside from United, Manchester City and Arsenal are also monitoring Olmo’s situation closely and observing how it unfolds.
Bara was scheduled to attend City’s Premier League match against Everton at the Etihad on Boxing Day.
Olmo, who moved to Barcelona from RB Leipzig in a £50 million deal last summer, excelled for Spain in their Euro 2024 victory over England in the final.
He continued his excellent form with Barcelona, scoring six goals and providing one assist in 15 games during the first half of the season.
The upcoming days will be crucial in determining Olmo’s future and which club he might join if he leaves Barcelona.
