With Selection Sunday less than eight weeks away, we’ll periodically examine where IU basketball stands in bracketology projections. The full 2025 NCAA tournament field will be revealed on Sunday, March 16, 2025.
Indiana basketball is 14-5 overall and 5-3 in the Big Ten with 12 regular season games remaining. While the Hoosiers haven’t met preseason expectations, several recent projections still mention the program as a potential NCAA tournament team.
Here’s a rundown of those projections and where the Hoosiers stand along with their current resume:

ESPN.com, Joe Lunardi
Lunardi’s projection published Tuesday, January 21 has Indiana as the last team in the field of 68. In the projection, the Hoosiers are a No. 11 seed playing UCF in a First Four game in Dayton, Ohio.
Lunardi has 10 Big Ten teams projected to make the 2025 NCAA tournament field.
CBSSports.com, Jerry Palm
Palm’s projection, last updated on Monday, January 20, has the Hoosiers as the first team out of the field. The four teams just ahead of the Hoosiers: San Diego State, Iowa, Wake Forest and Nebraska.
His No. 1 seeds are Alabama, Auburn, Duke and Iowa State.
NCAA.com, Andy Katz
Katz, a longtime college basketball journalist, has 12 Big Ten teams projected to make the field in his update published on Tuesday, January 21.
Indiana is among those 12 teams. Katz’s bracket has the Hoosiers as as No. 11 seed playing St. John’s, which is coached by Hall of Famer Rick Pitino.
FOX Sports, Mike DeCourcy
DeCourcy, who writes for The Sporting News and works in the studio for BTN, did not include Indiana in his most recent projection posted on Tuesday, January 21.
The Hoosiers were among the first four teams out of the field, just behind UCF.
Delphi Bracketology
Delphi hasn’t published an update since January 17 and that bracket did not include the Hoosiers.
The first four teams out in that projection: UCF, Arizona State, Texas and Vanderbilt.
Made For March
Made For March included IU in their most recent projection and has the Hoosiers headed for a First Four matchup in Dayton.
Interestingly, given the swath of Big Ten teams currently on the bubble, their projection has the Hoosiers facing a conference foe: “We joked about it before the start of the season, but it’s looking increasingly possible that we could see a Big 10 battle in Dayton as there are plenty of B10 squads littered around the cutline (Indiana, Nebraska, Iowa, Northwestern, Penn State, Maryland). Have the Terps and IU doing battle here.”
