Numerous influential figures within the women’s basketball community have addressed the rise in hate directed at the WNBA this year, coinciding with the increased attention Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark has brought to the league.
From Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese to Phoenix Mercury’s Brittney Griner, Connecticut Sun’s Alyssa Thomas, and even Caitlin Clark herself, prominent WNBA players are speaking out against the growing negativity from fans.
Several players, like Reese and Thomas, are specifically mentioning the Indiana Fever/Caitlin Clark fan base when addressing this issue.
The latest player to voice her thoughts on this matter is New York Liberty’s Breanna Stewart. When asked about addressing inappropriate remarks from a “specific fan base” (presumably referring to Fever/Clark fans), Stewart emphasized the importance of inclusivity and respect for all players.
Stewart highlighted the need for fans to show the same level of respect and admiration that players have for each other, regardless of competition.
It is unclear if Stewart is aware of Clark’s recent comments on the same topic.
