Brittney Griner Reacts to WNBA’s Big Reveal on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Atlanta Dream are 11-6 and have several days off before hosting the Seattle Storm on Thursday night. With guard Rhyne Howard out indefinitely due to an upper-body injury, other players will need to step up—including center Brittney Griner.

Griner is in her 11th WNBA season and is a 10-time All-Star, but she’s taken a step back this year after joining the Dream in the offseason.

The 34-year-old is averaging just 10.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. Last season, she averaged 17.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the WNBA announced the next three expansion cities, which will begin play after Portland and Toronto join the league next season. Cleveland will be added in 2028, Detroit in 2029 and Philadelphia in 2030.

Griner took to social media shortly after to react to the news with a simple repost on her Instagram story.

All three ownership groups in each of the new cities paid an expansion fee worth $250 million. That’s five times the amount the Golden State Warriors paid several years ago for the Golden State Valkyries.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert admitted that many other cities beyond Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia bid for a team. Those included Charlotte, Houston, Miami, Denver, Nashville, Kansas City, St. Louis and Austin.

Engelbert also honed in on Houston, saying the league has its eye on them for a potential team in the future.

The Houston Comets were just an amazing one, the first four inaugural championships in the WNBA. So I would say that’s the one, obviously, we have our eye on. (Owner) Tilman (Feritta) has been a great supporter of the WNBA, and we’ll stay tuned on that,” Engelbert said.
