Brown hits out at “poor taste” Marko

Zak Brown criticized Helmut Marko for suggesting that Lando Norris has a “mental weakness”.

When asked who he thought would win the 2024 title, Marko responded, saying: “Verstappen!”

“He’s the best,” he explained, “he’s the fastest and, most importantly, he has the mental strength to compete for the world championship more effectively than Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris.”

“We are aware that Norris may have some mental weaknesses,” he continued. “I’ve heard about certain rituals he performs to excel on race day.”

Responding to Marko’s comments, Brown stated: “Lando is very motivated for the final six races and the Sprints. He is focused and committed to his work, collaborating with his engineers, fulfilling his commercial and media obligations, and preparing for the races. He is very determined.”

“I read Helmut’s remarks, which I found disappointing but not surprising,” Brown added. “Lando has been a strong advocate for mental health, and Toto has also emphasized its importance. It’s a serious matter.

“We have been working towards destigmatizing mental health conversations and making it acceptable to discuss openly. So, to mock or criticize that situation is inappropriate and regressive in my opinion.”

“However, different people have varying approaches to racing and tactics from a sporting perspective. But I believe that comment was in poor taste.”

When asked about Max Verstappen’s alleged comments about Norris, Brown chuckled and responded: “I saw Max’s comments. I have a lot of respect for Max. We’ve had positive interactions this year, so I see it as part of the sport. Lando has no issues with it, and neither do I.”
