HANOVER, MD — Bryan “Nino Maravilla” Flores delivered a dominant performance to capture the WBC Fecarbox Super Lightweight Championship, earning a 10-round majority decision over Starling “El Poli” Castillo in the main event of ProBoxTV’s “The Contender Series” from the Live! Casino Hotel Maryland.

The event was presented by Lamont Roach Sr. and NoXcuse Promotions and streamed live on ProBox TV.

After a measured opening two rounds, Flores (28-1-1, 16 KOs), fighting out of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, steadily increased the pressure. He closed the distance against the taller Dominican southpaw Castillo (20-2-1, 13 KOs), working inside the longer reach to target the body and wear down his opponent.

As the rounds progressed, Castillo found fewer answers for Flores’ relentless offense. Flores battered him along the ropes and in close exchanges, and by the championship rounds Castillo appeared to be in survival mode under sustained pressure.

The official scores read 95-95, overruled by tallies of 98-92 and 96-94 in favor of Flores. While one judge saw the bout even, the scorecards failed to fully reflect Flores’ dominance, as he outlanded Castillo 163-76 in power punches.

Palacios Shocks Segawa to Claim NABF Featherweight Title

In the 10-round co-feature, Rene “El Zurdo” Palacios (19-0-1, 10 KOs) of Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico, scored an upset split decision over WBC #4-ranked featherweight Sulaiman Segawa (18-6-1, 7 KOs) of Silver Spring, Maryland, via Uganda, to capture the NABF Featherweight Championship.

Palacios was effective on the inside, while Segawa relied on sharp, long-range punches. There were no knockdowns, but Segawa suffered a cut over his right eye in round four, while Palacios finished the fight with his right eye swollen shut.

Although both southpaws had arguments for victory, the judges favored Palacios’ body of work, awarding him the fight by scores of 99-91 and 97-93, overruling a 96-94 card for Segawa. Segawa narrowly outlanded Palacios overall, 180-177.

Scarboro Jr. Wins Slugfest; White Claims WBC International Title

Local standout Francois “The Franchise” Scarboro Jr. (12-0, 9 KOs) thrilled the hometown crowd with a unanimous decision victory over Brandon Valdes (15-7, 7 KOs) in a 10-round super featherweight war.

The action was relentless from the opening bell. Scarboro appeared to rock Valdes late in round one, and Valdes was cut above the left eye in round three. Neither fighter backed down, trading heavy shots throughout all ten rounds.

Scarboro, competing for the second time in just 70 days, earned the decision by scores of 96-94, 96-94, and 99-91. Valdes was facing his fourth straight undefeated opponent.

WBC #15-ranked Jordan “Shortdog” White (20-2, 12 KOs) captured the WBC International Lightweight Championship with a tactical unanimous decision over Willie “The Thrill” Shaw Jr. (15-7, 10 KOs).

White dropped the late-notice Shaw with a perfectly timed right hand in round nine and secured the win by scores of 99-90, 98-91, and 97-92.

Undercard Highlights

In a competitive welterweight contest, Thanjhae “The Tiger” Teasley (14-0, 6 KOs) edged Elijah “2 Tec” Flores (10-1, 4 KOs) via eight-round split decision. Teasley dominated early rounds while Flores rallied late, but judges awarded Teasley the victory by scores of 78-74 twice, overruling a 77-75 card for Flores.

Travon “The Sniper” Marshall (13-1, 10 KOs) broke down Eduardo Diaz (9-5, 3 KOs) with a punishing body attack before scoring a sixth-round TKO at 2:41.

Undefeated Benjamin Johnson (7-0, 7 KOs) continued his perfect run with a third-round TKO over Mario Meza (4-2, 3 KOs), while David “The Body Snatcher” Whitmire (11-0, 8 KOs) stopped Jarrod Tennant (9-8, 4 KOs) late in round three after scoring two knockdowns.

DWayne Holmes (11-0, 6 KOs) def. Nestor Robledo (9-16-2, 7 KOs) via TKO 4 (0:01)

Ervin Fuller III (12-0, 6 KOs) def. Eric Ruiz (17-13-1, 7 KOs) via UD (3x 59-50)
