After the Buccaneers’ 24-14 win against the Dolphins in the preseason finale, which brought their record to 2-1, Tampa Bay started making roster cuts on Sunday. All NFL teams must reduce their roster from 90 players to 53 by 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, August 27th, in preparation for the start of the 2024 regular season.
Previously, with four preseason games, there would be multiple cutdowns throughout August. Now, teams have one cutdown date where they must trim 37 players to reach the mandated 53-man roster. Following the roster set on Tuesday, the Buccaneers and other teams can start forming their 16-player practice squads the next day.

Following the transition to one of the youngest teams in the league last season, the youth movement continued in the offseason with Tampa Bay’s 2024 NFL Draft Class and the departure of several veteran players. It is expected that all seven draft picks and a few undrafted rookies will make the final roster.
Head coach Todd Bowles acknowledged the impending tough decisions after the team’s last preseason game on Friday night.
“The bottom had some pluses,” Bowles said about bubble players who performed well. “We’re going to look at the tape. There [are] going to be some tough decisions made in the next couple of days. Obviously, when you have a good team, the tougher the decisions are, but there were some guys that made some plays, but I have to see the totality of the work.”

Final confirmed cut for the Bucs today is defensive lineman Lwal Uguak. Tampa Bay made 18 cuts today, so another 17 coming before Tuesday at 4 (plus Edmonds and Jarrett going on IR) to get from 90 players to 53.
