The Bucs are heading into the last game of the regular season and will be without some crucial defensive players. Starting cornerback Jamel Dean has been declared out for Saturday’s matchup against the Panthers, along with backup outside linebacker Anthony Nelson.
Dean has been the standout cornerback for Tampa Bay this year, but a persistent shoulder injury will prevent him from playing. This leaves Benjamin Morrison on one side, with either Jacob Parrish or Kindle Vildor stepping up on the opposite side. Nelson, dealing with a knee issue, will miss his second consecutive game. Typically the primary backup at edge rusher, his absence means more playing time for Jason Pierre-Paul and Chris Braswell during breaks.

A significant concern for Saturday’s game is the potential return of defensive tackle Calijah Kancey. He hasn’t played since Week 2 but is listed as questionable for this game. Given that this could be the last game of the season for the Bucs, it’s a crucial moment. Todd Bowles has indicated he may be fit to play, depending on circumstances.
“He can definitely play — he’s in the mix,” Bowles said regarding Kancey. “We’ll need to make some adjustments if he does, so there will be some challenges, but he’s had a solid week. These last two weeks have been productive for him. If he plays, it will be on a snap count.”

In positive news, left tackle Tristan Wirfs was not listed with any injury concerns on Thursday, meaning he is set to play. Wirfs missed last week’s game but is back in action for the season’s finale.
