History was made on Sunday afternoon with Butler making 18 3-pointers in the 95-38 win over Saint Francis. The 57-point victory was the last non-conference contest on the schedule for the Bulldogs. BU will head into league play on Dec. 21 with a 10-3 overall record.
Eight different Bulldogs hit at least one 3-pointer in the win giving BU 18 on the day. That number broke the old record of 16 which was reached by two other teams (2023, 2014). Lily Zeinstra and Kilyn McGuff each hit four to lead the team. BU shot 56 percent from distance (18-32) and 50 percent from the field (33-66).
Butler owned a 17-10 lead after the first quarter. They shot 47 percent from the field (7-15) and made three 3-pointers over the opening 10 minutes. Lily Carmody led all players early with a game-high seven points.
Second quarter action included a BU 8-0 scoring run that pushed the advantage to 25-13. Carmody and Riley Makalusky accounted for 22 of Butler’s 41 points in the first half, allowing BU to lead by 21 at the break.
Butler came out firing in the second half and would outscore the Red Flash 11-2 before a timeout. Cristen Carter scored on a paint touch before three-straight Kilyn McGuff 3-pointers. BU made eight triples in the frame to outscore Saint Francis 32-5 in the third.
Zeinstra hit Butler’s first shot from distance in the fourth quarter to set the new program record. Her second of the quarter came in front of the BU bench and pushed the team total to 18.
