Prospecting eyes will undoubtedly be on this historic title bout because both boxers have since experienced the big stage and have been on runs deserving of another call-up. Their paths crossed on the way back in the shape of a Cage Titans Championship bout that fans had been waiting years to witness, but it was not meant to be on their original routes to the big show.
With a 5-1 record in title fights over the past two years, Giannetti (16-5, 8 SUB 6 KO) has dominated the division. Most recently, he regained the lightweight title against Jacob Bohn with a dominant first-round Ninja Choke victory. In a display that brought back memories of his previous career, where he was known for his propensity for taking down opponents, he demonstrated an ever-evolving skill set of striking techniques and the determination to match his submission proficiency, as well as reassuring the public that he has the requisite dedication. Maintaining one’s position as the lightweight division king is the most obvious route back to primetime, and the bitter rivalry that has simmered since 2017 just serves to sweeten the entrée of fighting prowess between the two competitors.
Unexpectedly, Slippery Pete is fighting for the Cage Titans title, and the time couldn’t be better. Barrett (16-6, 11 KO 3 SUB), who has been on a five-fight winning streak of his own during the Skeletor reigns, will be thrilled to add a pro title to his growing list of Cage Titans achievements, which began at Cage Titans 4. This is especially true given the waist he could take the belt from. His case for a second trip to primetime will be strengthened with another outstanding finish and a bright new belt, adding to his excellent resume of incredible finishes and high-octane savage craftsmanship win, lose, or draw. Despite the long history between these previously established local MMA icons, this battle has all the makings of a classic because all limbs are potential kill shots at any point during a fight, plus the fighters have a wrestling basis with sleeper submission skills.
A fight between promising bantamweight prospects Andrew Valdina and Tyler Smythe previews the main event. Despite having different approaches and personas, their shared objectives for a contender series shot put them in a contest that will undoubtedly excite the audience before to this once-in-a-lifetime promotional main event. Since making his comeback in May, Andrew “The Gladiator” Valdina, who is undefeated at 5-0 and has won every fight by decision, has gained more notoriety and embraced his expanding highlight reel. In contrast, Tyler “Butterknife” Smythe (5-3, 4 SUB, 1KO), a quiet grinder who has been in the deep end of the division since his pro debut, thinks his suffocating style will work better.
