LAS VEGAS – Caio Borralho is no longer making predictions about UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis’ fights.
Borralho (17-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) is amazed at Du Plessis’ continued success, previously calling him “bad.” Du Plessis recently defeated Israel Adesanya to defend his title at UFC 305.
Sean Strickland (29-6 MMA, 16-6 UFC) is rumored to be Du Plessis’ next challenger for the title, and if they have a rematch, Borralho is leaning towards Strickland winning.
Or is he?
“I believe Strickland will win this fight, maybe, because I thought he won the last one, but maybe he could have done more,” Borralho told reporters, including MMA Junkie, after UFC on ESPN 62. “But in MMA, anything can happen. I always bet against Dricus, and he always ends up winning, so I won’t be betting on the next one. Let them fight it out and I’ll be next in line.”
Borralho established himself as a top contender in the middleweight division after defeating former title contender Jared Cannonier in the main event of UFC on ESPN 62 at the UFC Apex.
He believes he deserves a shot at the title but is open to facing any top middleweight to solidify his position as the top contender.
“I definitely want a title shot, but I will follow the direction of Hunter (Campbell) and Dana (White) and fight whoever they send my way. If it’s someone ranked above me or a fight that will bring me closer to the belt, I will take it, because I am here for the company,” Borralho said.
