Caitlin Clark is commemorating her achievements but remains focused on the future.
The 22-year-old Indiana Fever point guard took to Instagram on December 31 to reflect on her remarkable 2024. In the caption, she expressed, “My favorite moments from the best year. Time to make 2025 even better.”
The photos she shared showcased her accomplishments, including her Rookie of the Year award, winning the Big Ten championship with Iowa, enjoying moments with her college teammates, playing alongside new WNBA teammates like Aliyah Boston, being recognized by Time Magazine, and spending time with her boyfriend Connor McCaffery.
McCaffery, 26, left a comment on the post, calling her “Queen” with a heart hand emoji. Kate Martin, Clark’s Iowa teammate who will be playing for the Golden State Valkyries in 2025, also shared her excitement, saying, “What a year.” Supportive comments from other athletes like Cameron Brink, Sabrina Ionescu, and George Kittle were also noted.
Clark and McCaffery, a former Iowa basketball player, began dating in 2023. Their one-year anniversary post in April 2024 reflected their love and excitement for future adventures. McCaffery is currently working as a basketball coach at Butler University.
In December, the Iowa Hawkeyes announced the retirement of Clark’s No. 22 jersey in February. Clark expressed her pride in being a Hawkeye and the special place Iowa holds in her heart, beyond basketball, in a statement released by the University of Iowa Athletics.
“Receiving this honor and celebrating with my family, friends, and alumni means the world to me. Seeing my jersey in the rafters alongside those I’ve admired for so long will be a great feeling.”
Clark’s 2025 looks to be just as exciting, with the WNBA season starting in May. In 2024, Clark, the first overall pick, and her teammates ended the Fever’s 7-year playoff drought. Despite an early playoff exit, they are gearing up for a strong comeback in the new year.
Clark is prepared for the challenges ahead. In an interview with Time Magazine in December, she stated, “Personally, I’m just scratching the surface of what I can do and hopefully how I can change the world and impact people.”
