Here’s everything you need to know from the WNBA last week, in this week’s WNBA Wraparound.
Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese break WNBA records: On Saturday, Caitlin Clark made history as the first WNBA rookie to achieve a triple-double, scoring 19 points, 13 assists, and 12 rebounds. She also became the first Fever player to accomplish this feat and has had double-doubles in four of her last seven games.
Clark’s success in obtaining triple-doubles is not new; during her time at Iowa, she set a Big Ten record with 17 career triple-doubles. However, this recent achievement marks her first as a professional player after coming close on several occasions this season.
Reflecting on her accomplishment, Clark commented, “Obviously, it’s really cool. I’ve been finishing the ball at a really high rate. My assist numbers are because of my teammates, who I find in positions to succeed, like Aliyah Boston and NaLyssa Smith. They’ve done a great job, so I guess it’s cool.”
In other WNBA news, Angel Reese broke Candace Parker’s record for consecutive games with a double-double, achieving her 13th straight game on Sunday. She shined with 27 points and 10 rebounds in a victory over the Storm on Friday.
Reese downplayed her double-double streak, stating, “I just go out there and do my job. My job is to rebound, so I’m going to go out there and do my job and rebound. I know that’s what my teammates need from me, and I’ve committed to that.”
Turning to the WNBA All-Star team, the roster was announced last week with standout selections like Caitlin Clark (Fever) and Angel Reese (Sky), marking the first time in seven years that two rookies made the cut.
Other notable players included Dearica Hamby, Arike Ogunbowale, and DeWanna Bonner, among others. All players on the US Olympic team also earned All-Star nods, creating an impressive line-up for the upcoming event.
The All-Stars were selected through a mix of fan votes, player input, and media panel decisions. Notably, the Washington Mystics did not have any players on the All-Star roster. Team WNBA will face Team USA in Phoenix for the All-Star game later this month.
Making headlines, the Aces-Fever game set a new record for the largest regular-season single-game attendance in WNBA history, drawing 20,366 fans. The Aces’ move to T-Mobile Arena was driven by high ticket demand, especially due to Caitlin Clark’s popularity, as they became the first team to sell out all regular-season home games in league history.
Las Vegas secured a victory against Indiana with Kelsey Plum’s impressive 34-point performance, supported by A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young. The trio, along with Chelsea Gray, will represent the Aces at the Olympics this summer.
