The college matchups between them were legendary.
Their WNBA clashes have been ratings hits.
But this month, Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever and Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky will be teammates for the first time.
Both rookies have been selected as WNBA All-Stars through a combination of fan, player, media, and coach voting. The All-Star Game on July 19 at Footprint Center in Phoenix will feature Team USA, the national squad heading to the Paris Games, against Team WNBA, consisting of All-Stars not on the Olympic team.
Clark and Reese fall under the latter category. After the Fever’s loss to the Aces, Clark commented on playing alongside a longtime rival.
“I know people will be excited about it, but I don’t want it to overshadow the accomplishments of others,” said Clark, who ranks third in the league with 7.1 assists per game.
Following the Sky’s victory over the Dream, Reese tearfully expressed her happiness at being selected as an All-Star.
“They told me I’m an All-Star, and I’m just so happy,” said Reese, leading the league with 11.8 rebounds per game.
Clark topped the fan voting with 700,735 votes, while Reese secured fifth place with 381,518 votes. In between them were Boston, Wilson, and Stewart.
Last year’s fan votes were dwarfed by this year’s numbers, largely due to the popularity of Clark.
Clark’s absence from the Olympic team was seen as a snub by some. Now she has the opportunity to showcase her skills at the All-Star Game.
Team USA includes four Aces players, along with other top talents in the league. Team WNBA features players like Hamby, Bonner, and Ogunbowale.
