There were several storylines from Sunday’s game between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky. And while Caitlin Clark opened the 2025 WNBA season with a triple-double and Angel Reese had a double-double, a much more serious allegation overshadowed the excitement.
The WNBA is investigating alleged racial slurs made toward Reese during the game.
Clark was asked after Monday’s practice whether she heard any inappropriate comments. The Fever star stressed just because she didn’t hear anything doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.
“There’s no place for that in our game. There’s no place for that in society,” Clark told reporters after Monday’s practice, per The Athletic’s James Boyd. “And certainly we want every person who comes into our arena — whether a player, whether a fan — to have a great experience. … Hopefully the investigation — we’ll leave that up to (the WNBA) to find anything and take proper action if so.”
Earlier this year, the WNBA launched its “No Space for Hate” initiative, which was designed to help combat hate as well as promote respect in WNBA spaces — both online and in arenas.
It’s unclear when the alleged racial comments happened. There were no additional details about the incident from the Fever or the WNBA.
