Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is a force in her own right. The phenom has forever transformed women’s basketball in the United States. Unfortunately, fans did not get to see much of Clark on the floor this season.
The point guard dealt with injuries throughout the season, most notably an issue with her groin that kept her out the entire second half of the season, including Indiana’s playoff run.
There was hope among fans that they’d be able to see Clark compete in the Unrivaled league, a three-on-three league co-founded by WNBA stars Breanna Steward and Napheesa Collier to serve as an alternative to WNBA players having to go abroad to supplement their WNBA salaries.
If Clark were to play, she’d join teammates Aliyah Boston, Lexi Hull, and Kelsey Mitchell. However, Unrivaled announced the final three players that would be competing this season, and although another Fever teammate, Aari McCdonald, was one of them, Clark has decided to wait for the next WNBA season to return to play and is done playing with the other Fever until then.
Fans reacted to McDonald joining the league on social media.
“Now we’ve got AB, Lex, Kelsey, and Aari in this godforsaken league I may actually have to watch like for reals Turns out my love for the Fever girls is greater than my disdain for this gimmicky league,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Aari will be staying in the US to play basketball this WNBA offseason!” someone else added.
Hopefully, Clark decides to compete stateside in a future offseason.
