Golf Channel and the LPGA are gearing up for an exciting broadcast of the upcoming Annika Driven By Gainbridge event, featuring WNBA sensation Caitlin Clark participating in the Pro-Am.
The ‘Golf Today’ show is scheduled to start 90 minutes earlier on Wednesday to provide viewers with live coverage of the Pro-Am event, where Clark’s participation has generated significant interest.
Indiana Fever’s standout player will not only be hitting the greens but will also be paired with top-ranked female golfer Nelly Korda. Their partnership is expected to attract a lot of attention, with the broadcast including insights into Clark’s warm-up routine and a mid-round chat.
Originally, there were no plans to broadcast Clark’s Pro-Am round online or on TV, but due to the overwhelming interest in the WNBA superstar’s involvement, the coverage has been expanded.
Clark has openly expressed her passion for golf, even hinting at the possibility of pursuing a professional career during the WNBA off-season. “I’m going to play some golf, that’s what I’m going to do until it gets cold,” she told reporters in September.
“So that could help me become a professional golfer,” she said with a smile. With the upcoming Pro-Am event, Clark has the opportunity to showcase her skills on the course and is excited to participate in an event named after golf legend Annika Sorenstam.
“I love golf, so the chance to play in the Pro-Am for a tournament honoring a legend like Annika Sorenstam is incredibly exciting,” she shared.
This won’t be Clark’s first time rubbing shoulders with top golf stars, as she previously took part in the John Deere Classic Pro-Am on the PGA Tour in 2023.
During that event, the WNBA Rookie of The Year played alongside former US Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson and the world’s No. 4 Ludvig Aberg.
Aberg, who partnered with Clark for the front nine, had high praise: “She’s a rock star,” he acknowledged, “I was just along for the ride today. It was really cool.”
Reaffirming her love for golf, Clark stated: “Not many people get this opportunity, and to do it just 45 minutes away from where I play basketball is pretty exciting. I’m a big golf fan. I enjoy playing it and being around it. It’s just really fun. I usually have the TV tuned in to the PGA Tour every Sunday.”
Above all, Clark emphasized that the experience was about enjoyment. “It was great to interact with the young fans here today. I tried to make time to sign autographs, give out balls, or high-five them because it means a lot,” she said.
