Plenty of people reached out to Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark to celebrate her history-making triple-double in her team’s 83-78 win over the New York Liberty.
Clark revealed to reporters that nobody reached out before smirking.
Triple-doubles have become more common in the WNBA over the past two years. However, until last Saturday, no rookie had achieved the feat.
Clark made history by dropping 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists on the Liberty.
For the 6’0″ guard, defeating the reigning runner-up in the WNBA was a significant achievement, and she humbly downplayed her individual scoring contributions.
“I’m just happy we won,” she mentioned after the game. “I take pride in my ability to contribute in various ways to this team. I believe we perform well when I can grab the ball off the glass and quickly transition to find my teammates and set them up.”
Clark’s early season performance garnered attention, though not all of it was positive. She initially struggled with the transition to the WNBA, and the Fever’s 1-8 start made matters worse.
Now, as the No. 1 overall pick finds her footing, Indiana is beginning to turn things around. The Fever have gone 6-3 in their last nine games, and Clark is averaging 15.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 9.3 assists while shooting 42.2 percent from the floor during that stretch.
Her triple-double came shortly after being chosen to represent Team WNBA in the All-Star Game, alongside teammates Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston.
Clark is expected to achieve more triple-doubles and All-Star selections in the upcoming years.
