The 2023-24 Iowa women’s basketball team was honored during the Iowa Hawkeyes’ football game against the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday, with Iowa legend Caitlin Clark in attendance.
Clark received a rousing ovation from the crowd.
Clark spent four seasons at Iowa before being selected No. 1 overall by the Indiana Fever in the WNBA Draft this year.
Clark established herself as the greatest women’s basketball player in Hawkeyes history and one of the best players in the history of women’s college basketball.
During her final season at Iowa City, Clark had impressive stats averaging 31.6 points, 8.9 assists, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game.
Throughout her time with the Hawkeyes, Clark led the nation in scoring and assists, with career averages of 28.4 points, 8.2 assists, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game.
She also holds the record for the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer, in both men’s and women’s basketball.
In her rookie season with the Indiana Fever, Clark put up impressive stats and received several accolades.
She won the WNBA Rookie of the Year award, earned a spot on the All-WNBA First Team, and finished fourth in MVP voting.
Unfortunately, the Iowa football team was not faring as well, entering their matchup with Northwestern at 4-3 and struggling in the first half.
