One thing is certain: Caitlin Clark is a gym rat. She loves basketball, and she’s constantly working to improve her game. Now a second-year guard for the Indiana Fever, Clark is preparing for the grind of the WNBA’s 44-game regular season.

It all kicks off Saturday when the Fever take on Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky. But outside the hardwood, Clark has continued to draw attention, just as she did during her record-breaking run at the University of Iowa.

As the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division I basketball, Clark was the face of college hoops for her final two seasons. That spotlight hasn’t dimmed now that she’s in the pros. In a recent interview in an ESPN article with Alexa Phillippou, Clark opened up about the importance of stepping away from the game to recharge before her second WNBA season.

“It was nice to get away from everything and just be able to live my life like a normal person… to just be Caitlin,” Clark said. “Don’t get me wrong, I love basketball and being in the spotlight and playing with my teammates, but getting away from it all was really healthy for me.”

Clark moves into the second year of being a major piece of Indiana’s future. Her time at Iowa showed she can lead and raise the level of a team, and now she’s looking to do the same with the Fever.

Clark was named WNBA Rookie of the Year last season after leading the Indiana Fever to the playoffs. Although the team lost both postseason games, the experience proved invaluable for Clark and her young teammates.

During the regular season, she set a single-season rookie record with 337 assists and made 122 3-pointers — the second-most in a season in league history. She also scored 769 points, the most ever by a rookie, and became the first rookie in WNBA history to record a triple-double.
