Caitlin Clark doubters have had a challenging year.
The Indiana Fever rookie seems to be breaking WNBA records and setting new personal bests in each game played as she heads towards winning the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year award.
Initially, many veteran players in the league were hesitant about Clark, but most have now come around and begun to show their respect. However, an April post from one WNBA player resurfaced amid Clark’s incredible success.
On April 1, Washington Mystics player Brittney Sykes posted, advising not to let Caitlin Clark go left to shoot her threes, based on ESPN visuals.
Sykes implied that Clark’s shooting efficiency suffers when she goes right instead of left for threes.
This post led to two other WNBA players adding commentary on Clark, one of whom went viral for a flagrant foul on Clark the previous month.
Sky guard Diamond DeShields replied to Sykes’ post, expressing disbelief.
Sykes replied, stating the defender in her is frustrated.
Las Vegas Aces guard Sydney Colson sarcastically remarked, “I’m so scared of what I’m watching,” and added that Clark seems to prefer going left for threes.
A user posted a screenshot of these comments, highlighting how many WNBA players underestimated Clark before her rookie year.
Regardless of the debate on Clark’s shooting direction, she has proven to be an elite scorer in the WNBA and is expected to continue improving.
Clark will face Sykes and the Mystics on Thursday.
