“This year is just not the best for me.” Caitlin Clark, in the TIME magazine interview, spilled the beans on why she did not join the Unrivaled League. But for the future, she has kept the doors open. “didn’t rule out,” she says. But during the non-hooping period, what is the 23-year-old really up to?
She has been working out with Keith Porter, the new Player Development Coach for the Indiana Fever.
Speaking on the Swarmcast podcast, Clark reveals how dedicated Porter has been, putting in quite the hours in planning out what they are going to work on each day. “He puts a lot of time into what we are gonna work on every single day, but how does that look in a long-term plan of my development. And how does that all work together,” the 2024 ROTY reveals.

Keith Porter came over to Indianapolis from the Connecticut Sun with Stephanie White in December. The man played a key role in developing the likes of Alyssa Thomas, Brionna Jones, and WNBA Most Improved Player Dijonai Carrington. Now about a month in with Fever, he may be, but the coach has a goal for CC in mind. “I just want her to just destroy everything,” he says and seems to be planning accordingly, sending out a warning to the rest of the league in the process.
The Indiana Fever star reveals the process hasn’t been overwhelming but just involves little things that can help her “be much more successful in year two.” Having had back-to-back seasons with the Hawkeyes and the Fever alongside traveling overseas, CC feels she never really had a good duration to work on herself. This off-season has been it for the 23-year-old.
“Feel like this is the first time I’ve really had a chance to like really work on my game and work on my craft and be really focused on it. Obviously, that was hard in college, you know, even going into my senior year was really the last time I could work on things and add things… so this is my first time in quite some time where I can really focus… and work on things that I need to get better at,” Clark adds.
The NCAA DI all-time scoring leader finished 7th in the league in terms of scoring average, topped in assists and three-pointers made and attempted, and yet has more left in the tank. The Des Moines native has been seen in and out of the practice room of late, including on her birthday, when she sank 50-for-54 from beyond the arc in under 3 minutes. But that is only a gist of what Clark has in her routine.

A more focused routine rather than Unrivaled for Caitlin Clark
While Unrivaled could have offered a good experience for the 23-year-old, Stephanie White & Co. seems to have a more focused routine planned for their star player. Last month, the team dropped a 13-minutes video showcasing Clark’s individual work out with the staff– Keither Porter and assistant coaches Austin Kelly and Karima Christmas-Kelly.
While dribbles, passes, or three-point shooters weren’t a surprising sight, the star guard seemed to be focusing on mid-rangers, floaters, and finishing at the rim through her left hand, something her rookie season suggested improvement required on. She has also been seen working on her layups and fending off screens with Kieth in the clips Fever shares. Set on making the most of the off-season for her game, Clark has just the support.

“I just want her to feel super comfortable in every scenario, every coverage, whatever it is, and just destroy teams,” Porter shared as he joined Fever. He is also excited to have a chance to train ‘potentially one of the greatest female athletes ever,’ and is strong on his beliefs of CC securing an MVP honor soon. With aligning intentions between the player and coach, a spectacle of a season certainly seems to be in store.
