Lexie Hull established herself as one of the key players on the Fever roster last season. She brought a gritty presence on the court and was always there to do the dirty work for her team. However, Hull was not always as confident in herself as she is now.

In an interview with Glamour magazine on Monday, the Fever guard revealed that she was quite underconfident in shots during her rookie season. Hull said that she felt her shots needed to go in or she might get benched or worse, get cut.

However, the arrival of Caitlin Clark changed everything for her. Lexie Hull hinted that Clark’s gravity on the court allowed her to get more open looks, and feel more confident in herself.

“I know I’m going to get open shots,” she said. “I don’t need to be worried about whether they go in or they don’t, because I’ve put in the work to set myself up for this and I’ll live with the outcome.”

Lexie Hull started the season as a prominent bench player for the Fever. However, as the season progressed, Hull was forced to step up as a starter. She played 44 games while starting 30 games.

Lexie Hull accuses WNBA rivals of being jealous of the Fever in locker-room talks

Later in the interview, Lexiie Hull was asked if the Fever played with a target on their back compared to other teams. She revealed that other teams have been jealous of the Fever since Caitlin Clark joined the franchise.

“I think there is a level of jealousy when it comes to the Fever, just because of the media attention and the fans that have shown up for us ever since Caitlin got here,” she said. “We’ve heard people and players and teams talking in their locker room about, ‘We can’t let the Fever win.”

The Indiana Fever has become one of the most-watched teams in the WNBA since the addition of Caitlin Clark. They have sold out Gainbridge Fieldhouse almost every night they have played there, and have also attracted massive audiences in away arenas.

Hull later explained that the feeling of jealousy among the teams is healthy for the league.

“If you have extra motivation to beat us because of something out of our control, that’s fine, if that’s what it takes for you guys to come and try extra hard,” Hull added. “I think a little bit of that is needed across the league…. Everyone should feel like they’re getting everyone else’s best, and I do feel like we get everyone else’s best.”

To finsih her segment, Lexie Hull called out the players to come together and stand for a common cause, while the WNBPA tackles the league in the CBA negotiations.
