Caitlin Clark Sends Official ‘Warning’ To The WNBA originally appeared on The Spun.
Caitlin Clark joined in on sending an official “warning” to the WNBA over All-Star Weekend.
The WNBA and the league’s players are currently negotiating a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The current CBA between the league and the players expires at the end of October. It’s a critical time for the league, which has grown a lot in recent years.

The WNBA’s players, understandably, want to be paid a lot more by the league. The league, of course, is doing its best to negotiate the kind of salaries that they believe work best for both parties.
Clark has made it clear that the league’s top players will continue to fight for better pay.

“WNBA All-Star capts. Napheesa Collier & Caitlin Clark addressing the media right now,” Annie Costabile of FOS said via X. “Both have fielded questions on the CBA. Clark said players are fortunate to have lucrative deals off the court, but they’re fighting for better W paychecks as the league continues to grow.”
The WNBA currently has a salary cap of $1,507,100 per team. That’s a fraction of what NBA teams have. Obviously, the NBA makes significantly more money, but the WNBA has very much been growing, too.
The league’s highest-paid player makes less than $300,000 per season. Arike Ogunbowale of the Dallas Wings signed a three-year deal worth $725,952 back in 2023. She’s the only player in league history to surpass the $700,000 mark.

WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert, meanwhile, believes that progress is being made.
“It was very constructive dialogue,” she said at the All-Star Break. “I think, you know, obviously part of the process is to go back and forth and listen to the players, they listen to us and the owners who represent the board of governors. I still feel really optimistic that we can get something transformational done by the end. But it’s a process.”
It’s clear that Clark and the league’s top players will continue to fight in a major way.
