The WNBA season is still a couple of months away, but with all the back-and-forth between the league and the players’ association, a lockout seemed a realistic possibility.

That’s why Caitlin Clark’s latest statement should offer fans a glimmer of hope.

The Indiana Fever star joined NBC during the “Sunday  Night Basketball” pregame show ahead of the New York Knicks’ home game with the Los Angeles Lakers. The former Iowa star shared her optimistic thoughts on the CBA negotiations.

Caitlin Clark is optimistic about CBA negotiations

“Honestly, I don’t think it’s just a big moment for the WNBA, I think all of women’s sports,” Clark said, via beat reporter Scott Agness. “I think this is one of the biggest moments we’ve ever had. I feel very confident that we’re going to get something done.”

While she acknowledged that both parties still needed to see eye to eye on several key issues, it shouldn’t be much longer before they reach an agreement.

“There’s a meeting tomorrow that’s super important,” she continued. “I truly do believe we’re going to get something done here in the next couple of weeks. There’s a lot of boxes that we still need to check…but I really do feel confident.”

These negotiations have been ongoing for more than a year now. Both parties have agreed to two extensions after the players opted out of the CBA in October 2024.

The players are pushing for a revenue-sharing structure similar to the NBA’s. The WNBA wants to cap the maximum salary at around $1.3 million with an uncapped revenue-sharing model.

If they reach a deal, the season will tip off on May 8, but time is of the essence in these negotiations, given that free agency remains on hold while deliberations continue.
