As the WNBA season approaches, the Indiana Fever have begun their preparations for the preseason opener on May 3.
Before that, Fever guard Lexie Hull shared some exciting personal news on social media—she is now engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Will Matthiessen, who plays for the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

Hull’s announcement quickly caught the attention of her teammate and close friend, Caitlin Clark, who responded with an enthusiastic “YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY SO HAPPY.” But the praise didn’t stop there. After a team practice on Wednesday, the Fever went above and beyond to celebrate Hull’s engagement.
The team gathered at mid court and surprised Hull with engagement gifts, and Clark was the first to grab the tiara, rushing over to place it on Hull’s head with an unmistakable look of excitement.
Fans reacted to Clark and her teammates’ surprise for Hull:
“CC running to Lex,” A fan said.
“Ok but how many votes for CC to be the flower girl and run like that throwing dimes to the crowd at the wedding,” Another fan posted.

Clark and Hull’s chemistry developed quickly last season during Clark’s rookie year with the Fever, and the excitement for both players to hit the floor together again this season is palpable—especially after the Fever made several moves to strengthen their roster around the former Iowa Hawkeye star.
In addition to hiring new head coach Stephanie White, the Fever have added key players like DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard, Sophie Cunningham, Sydney Colson, and Brianna Turner.
