The 2025 WNBA season is set to begin soon, with training camp kicking off on April 27 and the new campaign officially starting on May 16. At this point, fans would expect that the top free agents have already been signed, with teams just reserving spots for their upcoming rookies.
Interestingly, however, one free agent remains unsigned despite having a big year in 2024: Chennedy Carter.

Carter played for the Chicago Sky last season but became an unrestricted free agent after the team didn’t extend her a qualifying offer. According to a report by Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times, Carter’s behavior created tension in the locker room, so Chicago was concerned it could hurt its chances of luring free agents.
As fans may know, the 26-year-old point guard also went viral and received plenty of backlash after she shoulder checked Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark during an inbound play in a June 2024 game. Since then, Carter has developed a reputation as a dirty player.

Still, Carter led the Windy City franchise in scoring last campaign with 17.4 points per game, which is also a career high. She also tallied career-best averages in rebounds (3.5) and steals (1.1).
With that said, fans couldn’t believe that no WNBA team would take a chance on the scoring guard. A quick search on social media shows fans wondering what happened to Carter, as well as several fans asking their teams to bring her in.
“The season is roughly 30+ days away, Chennedy Carter hasn’t received one contract offer when she led her team in scoring with 17.5 ppg The league have executive meetings and they take notes so when ur agency misrepresent you lower your value that get u blackballed by executives,” a concerned commenter wrote.

Another fan asked, “All this NCAA news and wnba news is exciting..but I’m still waiting on Chennedy Carter news. Is she signing with a team, what is going on???
“Where is Chennedy Carter tho,” a poster added.
A Sky fan shared, “Where’s Chennedy Carter and why haven’t we Resigned her? #ChicagoSky.”
Meanwhile, a Connecticut Sun supporter pleaded the franchise to sign Carter, writing, “Aye man, y’all don’t have anything going for you this season since you cleaned house, go pick up Chennedy Carter @ConnecticutSun.”

It remains to be seen what will happen to Chennedy Carter’s WNBA career, and whether a team will give her a chance. For now, though, nothing is set in stone and all Carter can do is work hard, take advantage of every opportunity she gets and wait for that potential call.
