Canada announced its official Olympic women’s national team (CanWNT) on Monday, making them the fourth team to finalize their 18-player lineup before the Wednesday deadline.
Almost all players selected for the reigning Olympic gold medalists’ roster have previous Olympic experience, with Portland Thorns midfielder Jessie Fleming leading the team as captain.
Last summer was challenging for Canada, marked by an early World Cup exit and off-pitch issues, including Christine Sinclair’s retirement from international soccer. Coach Bev Priestman believes the squad blends experience and youth, bringing a balance of athleticism and talent.
Brazil also announced their 18-player Olympic roster on Tuesday, featuring NWSL stars like Tarciane, Rafaelle, Adriana, Kerolin, and Marta, with Angelina and Lauren as alternates.

New head coach Arthur Elias revealed Brazil’s squad, with Marta set to retire after the Olympics. Marta, a global soccer legend, could make history by scoring in her sixth consecutive Summer Games, as she currently holds the record for most career goals for both club and country.
While half of Brazil’s lineup played in last year’s World Cup, notable striker Debinha did not make the Olympic roster despite her success with the NWSL’s Kansas City Current.
